Settergren
Settergren was established in 1895 by Will and Gus Settergren, in Grove City/Litchfield. Up to 1922, this store remained open. Will asked Mark’s grandfather Carl Settergren to start a business two years later. In 1924, they established Settergren Hardware at East Lake and 27th Street. Dale and Carl start working together in 1947 as coworkers at the East Lake store. The store is destroyed by fire in 1948, but they return six months later. Carl remained there right up until its closure in 1969. Dale and Phil established Settergren Hardware on September 1st, 1957, at 54th and Penn. Mark bought Simms Hardware in Dinkytown in 1986.
