“The store was bright and clean, the shelves were well stocked and the produce was fresh. In short everything I have come to expect from Aldi. They were missing some items that I typically find in the store where I usually shop but that’s probably due to regional buying differences or I failed to find it. Check out was a bit of a line, but that’s typical of an Aldi experience. The cashier was efficient and friendly.” – Juan Jeffrey
Lucky’s Market Cleveland
Lucky’s Market Cleveland was founded in the late 1920’s when Alex, the first of five generations of a family of grocers, hung up the reins of his horse-drawn produce wagon and opened the first corner family store at 33rd and Payne Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. Alex’s son, David, enlarged the store into a modest grocery store and named it after him. Burt, David’s son, saw that the store needed to expand in order to meet the rising needs of its customers. Burt’s sons, Dan and Steve, joined the company and, along with Burt, have worked to expand it even more.

“It’s a great store but the employees working self checkout are aggressively helpful. You pick up a banana and next thing you know they are standing behind you telling you how to pick it up and scan it. Might as well swipe my card for me. I use self check out for a reason. Please let me be.” – Katie Sanders
Heinen’s of Downtown Cleveland
Heinen’s of Downtown Cleveland began in 1929, when Joe Heinen, after discovering a passion for the trade, started a butcher shop in Shaker Heights. In 1933, Heinen opened the city’s first supermarket, which sold typical grocery products as well as hand-butchered meats, across the street from his butcher shop. Bringing these two shopping experiences together was new in the grocery market in the 1930s, but it was Heinen’s commitment to quality that actually set him apart.

Dave’s Mercado was founded in the late 1920’s when Alex Saltzman, the first of five generations of grocers, hung up reins in his horse drawn produce wagon and opened the first corner family store at 33rd and Payne Avenue in Cleveland. The shop is named after Alex’s son, Dave, who took over the business from his father. In 2007, Dave’s added four new sites and opened Dave’s Mercado on Ridge Road. “I went here for the first time. My sister does a lot of spanish cooking and I wanted to be able to make some of the recipes she gave me. In my town in Pa, I only saw 3 or 4 items to be able to use to cook these meals. Not even enough. Here there were several aisles full of ingredients I would need. I was able to get everything I needed in this store. Great variety of foods both spanish and other cultures!” – Susan Caton
