Food City SupermarketsSupermarkets in El Paso

Food City Supermarkets was founded by El Paso residents to serve El Paso residents. José Santos opened his first store, El Rancho Mart, on South Stanton Street, in 1964, more than fifty years ago. He quickly outgrew that location and constructed Food City on Alameda Avenue as the company’s primary location.

At initially, Food City shared this space with Aaronson Brothers’ “Big Star” department store. Mr. Santos quickly realized, however, that this space would be insufficient. El Paso was rapidly expanding, and word got out that Food City offered superb food at lower prices.

“Walmart Neighborhood Markets are great when you want an alternative to the supermarket but don’t want to go to the Walmart Supercenter. A reasonably good selection and prices about the same as the big place. Plus ours has an in-store bakery which means day-old baked goods, always a great bargain. So, if you’re in a hurry but still want a good selection, the Neighborhood Market is the place to go.” – James P.
