Dr. Islam Abujubara joined IMS’ Neurology Department in July 2011 and has opened a new practice location on the John C. Lincoln Hospital/North Mountain campus. Dr. Abujubara (his patients call him “Dr. AJ”) is the Chief of Neurology at IMS. in 2019 he was listed as top doctor in Phoenix Magazine.
He completed medical school at Jordan University of Sciences and Technology. During his last year of schooling, he authored a book entitled, The Beautiful Mind, Use it or Lose it, which details memory formation and how to make the best use of our brains. At that point, it was clear to him that he wanted to continue his medical career learning more about the physiology and pathology of the human nervous system. In his last year of medical school, Dr. Abujubara did an elective rotation at the Baylor College of Medicine, TX. Following medical school, he completed residency in Internal Medicine and Neurology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and received extensive training in Neurophysiology (EEG, NCSs and EMGs). He was named ‘Best Resident’ by the nursing staff and received the 2009 Jeff Nicholas prize for his dedication towards the care of veterans.
Dr. Abujubara is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. AJ has presented his research at the American Academy of Neurology annual meetings, one which was selected as one of the best abstracts of the year at the 2011 AAN meeting in Honolulu. Dr. Jeffrey S. Gitt hails from Detroit, Michigan. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology and Zoology. He obtained his medical training at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, in Pomona, California, graduating in 1983. He completed his Internship at Phoenix General Hospital in 1984. Dr Gitt finished his residency in Neurology at Georgetown University Medical Center from 1984-1987, also serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Gitt then relocated to the Phoenix area in 1987, and has been in private practice in the Phoenix area for the last 28 years.
Dr. Gitt is board certified in Neurology by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, in Sleep Medicine by The American Board of Sleep Medicine, and is a Multiple Sclerosis Certified Specialist, by the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers. Dr. Fechtel started his career in Chiropractic Orthopedics graduating from Western States Chiropractic College. After practicing in chiropractic for 12 years, he went back to medical school at Oregon Health Sciences University.
