Thai House Restaurant is a chic Thai restaurant featuring noodle dishes, seafood, and a sizable vegetarian menu. Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop
Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop is Kansas City’s most popular Thai restaurant. Every dinner is made exactly as it would have been for the family table back in Bangkok. Lulu’s is a local Thai restaurant with spots in three of Kansas City’s flourishing neighborhoods. The “yâa” (grandmother) of the restaurant’s owner, Malisa Monyakula, is the source of each dish. Family background is told in Lulu’s story.
Each dish was developed by Khun Ya, the grandmother of business owner Malisa Monyakula, or her “yâa” in Thai. Khun Ya taught her kids to appreciate Thai cuisine. As a result, when Prateeb, Malisa’s father, ended up in America in the 1950s, he developed a liking for Thai cuisine. Prateeb searched Asian shops, seeking evocative ingredients like lemon grass, coconut, and chilis to imitate his mother’s mouthwatering dishes. He gave Malisa the same love of Thai food when he went back to Thailand years later to have a family.

Waldo Thai is a family-run restaurant that is located south of the city center of Kansas City. The executive chef, Pam Liberda, oversaw its debut in 2018. Pam Liberda was born in Lampang, which is in northern Thailand. She acquired her skill set and understanding of Northern Thai cuisine by watching her mother cook and studying for her. Nang Nang Lao Thai
Nang Nang Lao Thai offers Kansas City an authentic experience of Southeast Asian culture. Nang Nang is a concept that its owners, Nang Andy, and Nang Dianna, created out of their shared love of preparing Lao and Thai cuisine. Nang, a word used in Laotian, is directly translated as “Miss” or “Mrs.” It is used in front of a female person’s name when addressing her in a formal manner. And thus they have Nang Andy and Nang Dianna.
Their parents worked in Thai restaurants for more than 20 years, nearly every day of the week, and every weekend they went to the Berkeley, California, Thai Temple to learn Thai dancing. This was how they lived as Laotian Americans. They had a unique upbringing where they could learn about the dancing, food, and culture of both Thailand and Laos. They are delighted to introduce the traditions and cuisine of both Thailand and Laos to all of you in Kansas City because they have been lucky enough to maintain their histories.
