Buffalo Exchange was founded by Kerstin and Spencer Block in Tucson, Arizona, in 1974. Kerstin, a Swedish native, thought the word “Buffalo” sounded very American, and since they were introducing the concept of a fashionable clothing “Exchange,” the name was born. That 450 square foot store near the University of Arizona has grown into around 40 stores across the United States in the 45 years since. Kerstin and her daughter Rebecca continue to run Buffalo Exchange, which is still based in Tucson.

Junk’s Above is a thrift store in Mid-City New Orleans near St. Patrick Park. It’s housed in what was once a plumbing supply warehouse. Inside, you’ll mostly find tchotchkes, with the occasional chair or lamp. If there is wood furniture inside, you can bet your bottom dollar that it is genuine. There will be no phony particleboard or low-cost plastics. “glass, wood, metal, porcelain” is our motto. If your money is running low, take a look in their dollar closet. Everything inside is a buck or less. If you have a lot of money, go ahead and buy that Fiji water at the counter.
