NY Martial Arts Academy was the first school in the tri-state area to be recognized by the Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do Nucleus (an organization established to preserve and perpetuate the art that Bruce Lee developed). This organization consisted of Bruce Lee’s wife, daughter, first generation, and second generation students. This organization and our school have a common purpose to promote the art, science, and philosophy of the founder of JKD (Bruce Lee). They are one of the only schools on the East Coast to teach Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do.

This is also an academy that will teach you the different aspects of Jeet Kune Do (mind, body, and spirit). You will also develop friendships and a common respect for your fellow martial artists.

WuTang Chinese Martial Art Institute

WuTang Chinese Martial Art Institute is one of the oldest and most prestigious martial arts schools in New York City. They have been teaching in New York for over 30 years, and they have been in the same place of over 25 years.

They are a traditional style school that has evolved with modern times. While many schools have only one master, they have several different Masters and high level instructors who each expose students to different training techniques and concepts, while still adhering to the same underlying philosophy.

They have classes for all ages, and of varying difficulty levels. Do not be afraid that you are too old, or not in good enough shape. They have easier classes, as well as classes that will push even people in great shape to their limits and beyond.

“Conveniently located in the Kips Bay section of Manhattan, the International Martial Arts Center (IMAC) provides instruction in both Taekwondo and Hapkido. Training at IMAC is both intensive and personal. Students are encouraged to achieve their personal best through constant practice and goal setting, and are consistently supported in their efforts at achieving their personal best by Grandmaster Hahn and their IMAC peers. As an IMAC student for approximately 6 years, I have found the experience of training in the martial arts of Taekwondo and Hapkido at IMAC to be challenging, educative and fun.” -Kumbi 2012

Shaolin Kung Fu Training Center

Shaolin Kung Fu Training Center has been established for the purpose of bringing this great Chinese martial arts into the 21st Century. At the Center, Shifu Hengxin, with Shimu Arlene demonstrate movements in great detail and take a personal interest in each student’s progress. With a philosophy focused on meditation, concentration and dedication, they believe one can overcome and succeed in anything. In a general sense, Shaolin Martial Arts can be described as the integration of the External (physical) and the Spiritual. Training for all students begins with External development. Physical development is achieved through a combination of conditioning, stretching, learning fundamental techniques, correct breathing, and open hand forms. The mastery of the fundamental techniques of Shaolin Kung Fu provides a student with a strong foundation on which to build their martial arts skills. To ensure that students truly internalize the mechanics of Shaolin Martial Arts, much emphasis is placed on the details involved with proper basic techniques. As students gain physical conditioning and progress in the basic techniques, they are taught more advanced traditional open hand forms. Training in traditional weapons is introduced into the curriculum to further develop coordination, to strengthen the body and to further a student’s martial skills. As they train, students increase their strength, energy, and martial techniques while increasing concentration and self-discipline. This takes place in an atmosphere where integrity, discipline, hard work, and humility are valued and emphasized.
