Houston Thyroid and Endocrine Specialists
Dr. Varughese is a native Houstonian being born and raised in Southwest Houston. He attended medical school at the early age of 16 at the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi University. He then completed his Internal Medicine residency from St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Centre in Phoenix. During his training, he served as Internal Medicine Chief Resident and Co-chair for the American College of Physicians Council of Resident/Fellow Members. Dr. Varughese cares deeply about improving access to healthcare and was featured in the Catholic Health World newsletter as part of team of training physicians who were finding ways of overcoming obstacles that faced the chronically ill as well as working in several community outreach clinics during his training.
He then completed his fellowship in Endocrinology at Baylor College of Medicine in his hometown of Houston where he trained at St. Luke’s Hospital as well as M.D. Anderson Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital. During his training, his research focus was in diabetes medication and its effect on inflammation and endothelial dysfunction but also spent considerable time managing thyroid disease and cancer, adrenal and pituitary disease as well testosterone deficiency.
He is an active member of the American College of Clinical Endocrinologist. During his spare time, he loves to do DIY home-improvements projects as well as spend time with family and at church teaching Sunday school and working with the church youth ministry.
