Retrospect Coffee Bar
Retrospect Coffee Bar offers handmade espresso from their bright orange Slayer. In May of 2017, a small part of Houston’s history from the 1920s reopened to the community as Retrospect Coffee Bar. At the heart of Retrospect is a brilliant orange Slayer espresso machine hand-built in Seattle to Retrospect’s custom details. A restricted but considerate menu of sweet and savory crepes are served all day, each named after a different icon of Texas history – including the Lady Bird Johnson with chopped turkey, goat cheese, and the all-veggie Janice Joplin.
A rotating list of craft beer is on offer, as well as an eclectic range of wines by the glass or bottle. And for fans of handcrafted frozen custard, Retrospect will carry a complete line of Honeychild’s Sweet Creams, including a unique flavor just for them the orange creamsicle.

“Great coffee and even better Crepes. It has great outdoor seating and the people working the register are very nice!” – A.S.
Cafeza is the original Cafeceria, its idea is motivated by the cafe of Barcelona and Buenos Aires, as well as the communities cervecerias and refresquerias that are universal in the diverse Hispanic communities in and around central Houston. Cafeza blends the best of both creations, together with an infusion of Texan hospitality, to produce a totally new and unique experience.
Cafeza offers a relaxed, lively atmosphere with design elements juxtaposing art nouveau and street art aesthetics. Music is omnipresent, and evenings will attribute performances by local musicians. With the commotion of daily life, Cafeza is more than just a neighborhood coffee shop to study or have a quick meeting. Cafeza is a goal, so come, breathe easy, and enjoy yourself.

“I should have took a photo of the food but it was too good to interrupt. the staff was very helpful and welcoming. prices are reasonable.” – Alexa D.
Boomtown Coffee starts with the vision of serving coffees that people wanted to drink roasted with care, brewed with precision, and always served with love. They think that that’s just the right way to do it, and they believe that doing things the right way with confidence, passionate people, and respect for the craft will inevitably lead to good things.
They also think that it’s the least they can do to honor the hard work of the entire coffee supply chain that exists behind every cup. They know just how important a good cup of coffee can be, and they want you to taste the care that they have taken when sourcing and roasting their beans.

“Favorite coffee shop in The Heights! Coffee is on point, and the food is really yummy too. Lines can get really really long on the weekends, so come early if you want to grab a spot and eat inside. Parking is difficult, but that is everywhere in the heights so can’t get around it. There’s definitely a hipster vibe inside, and I love the fact that to-go portions are really generous! Highly recommend!” – Aleena G.
Empire Café blends a cozy European atmosphere, fabulous food, and friendly service. From their wonderful breakfast and brunch menu to their exciting and original lunch and dinner entrees, they have something for everyone. They offer in the morning with cappuccino, frittatas, and their signature Italian Toast; lunches of Paninis and Chicken Florentine, and dinners of Chicken Parmesan and Pan-Seared Salmon.
Their handmade scones, sticky buns, and muffins are a fine morning choice to go with their custom-roasted, world-class coffees and espresso drinks. Their forte drinks, diverse wine list, and international beer selection make for a great cocktail hour. And their famous homemade cakes are very hard to say no to. Empire’s warm service and comfortable atmosphere keep their customers coming back.
