“We went to a concert and is a smaller concert hall. It was kept clean the entire time, the staff was very friendly, and there is a bar in each area, so it was easy to get drinks. The general area in front of the stage was standing only and upstairs is close enough you won’t miss anything.” – Jessica B.

Carver TheaterTheatres New Orleans

Carver Theater is registered on the National Register of Historic Places because it represents a significant phenomenon in the entertainment history of New Orleans’ large African-American population — the development of theaters in the city’s black neighborhoods. On Sept. 29, 1950, the Carver Theater opened to grand fanfare.

It was greeted as “America’s first theater for colored patrons” and boasted a “spacious powder room and lounge with a maid in attendance at all times for the solace of ladies.” The first two showings starred John Wayne in “The Sands of Iwo Jima” and “Unknown Island”; these premiers were introduced by a Woody Woodpecker cartoon.
