“Food portions were amazing and the quality blew my mouth away.” – Alexander R.
Takoi formerly KATOI, began as a food truck in 2014, evolved into an Ann Arbor pop-up,
and landed as a proper restaurant at 2520 Michigan avenue Detroit in march of 2016. After 11 months in business, the restaurant has had a lot of fun and won a few prizes, including a James Beard Award for “Best New Restaurant of 2017.” When KATOI was set on fire in February 2017, it was brought back to earth. The rebuilding began the day after the fire, and we opened as TAKOI in August 2017, exactly six months later.

“Excellent Thai dishes to remember. Far ahead of the crowd with intriguing starters (try the carrots), curry, noodles, whole fish, and kabobs. Urban crowd hums in a contemporary buzzy electric atmosphere. Service shines. Fun specialty cocktails.” – Josef A.
Sala Thai has been started to open the business from September 1994 until September 2002. Sala Thai was relocated to Detroit’s old eastern market in September 2002. Customers at the new Sala Thai are now served on Fire House No.5’s ground floor. The old firehouse, built-in 1888, is entirely wood-paneled interior, with high ceilings and fashioned in antique materials and traditional Thai style.
On top of wooden booths and tables, there are various hanging lights. Thailand’s Sala Thai oasis is known as “a place of rest,” and Thai travelers look forward to it because they know they will find respite for their tired feet, tasty food, and drink to quench their thirst. To the same in their restaurant, they invite you. So, relax in their Sala Thai while quenching your thirst and filling your hunger.

“I’ve been eating here for 15 years and they are still as good possibly better than when I first had it. When I could finally hold food down this was the first thing my daughter had when she was in my belly. The prices have gone up understandably but they’re worth every penny. They’ve finally stopped asking me if I’m sure I want it Extra Hot. I love it spicy!!! Hands down still the best Thai I’ve had.” – Zaneta M.
