Bar OniTop Sushi in Cleveland

Bar Oni was formed and birthed during the COVID 19 crisis in the spring of 2020. Chefs David Kocab and Matthew Spinner were busy operating a successful Japanese restaurant when a pandemic disaster struck. The event left their restaurant, along with all others in the state, closed for dine-in business. This meant the only way to survive would be through delivery and takeout business. Clearly, yakitori and izakaya-style pub food were hits among Clevelanders. So much so, that in September 2020, the duo determined to convert their former fine-dining Japanese restaurant space, to a Japanese sports pub and yakitori grill.

“Very tasty, would recommend! It’s a little bigger than a mom-and-pop joint, but it’s got a lot of good stuff. We didn’t get any sushi but what we saw looked good, and you can see it prepared in the front. Both dishes we got were very tasty.” – Nicole

Kenko ClevelandOne of the best Sushi in Cleveland

Kenko Cleveland, Kenko means “Health” in Japanese. With the mission to offer fast and healthy dining options to customers while furnishing a casual and relaxing environment, the first Kenko Sushi & Teriyaki store open up its door in July of 2015. Being the owner of a premium Sushi and Hibachi restaurant in Strongsville, Ohio since 2004, one of the co-founders, Shenglong Yu, acquired the idea of a Chipotle-style sushi bar back in 2008, with the Shinto Jin Teki roll.

That thought really ripened and took off after a couple of years. By simplifying the sushi-making steps, clients could get their sushi made in under two minutes from the time they start ordering to leaving the establishment. Based on this concept, Teriyaki and Kung Fu Tea were added to the menu with the purpose of offering customers more dining and beverage options, thus the birth of Kenko Sushi & Teriyaki.

“This place was clean and the service was nice. I was surprised how much chicken I got for my chicken teriyaki bowl! It was a generous serving 🙂 I was given 2 small cups of yum yum sauce. My bubble tea was perfect. There is plenty of seating and they’re open for dine-in now.” – Melinda D.
