Nashville Golf & Athletic Club
Nashville Golf & Athletic Club started in the late 1770s. Andrew Crockett, an uncle of the legendary woodsman Davy Crockett, unsheathed his broad axe amid the lush landscape of Middle Tennessee in the spring of 1786 and began the tedious task of clearing a tiny knoll. A few of the saplings that formerly covered the Crocketts’ knoll have grown to maturity 200 years later. Their sturdy, fruitful limbs cast shade over a putting green in front of Nashville Golf & Athletic Club’s centerpiece. The clubhouse’s library has been reconstructed from a portion of that old structure where legend has it that Andrew fought off an Indian onslaught to protect his family.
