Abernethy was made in its immediate area at SE 14th Avenue and Orange Street in 1925. The school was called or named “Abernethy” after the first ephemeral governor of Oregon George Abernethy.

Roosevelt High School
Roosevelt High School nestled in the core or heart of St. Johns has a rich culture born of serving families and western sources. It was made in 1910, was called or named James John High School, in honor of the originator or founder of the settlement, and cost $40,000 to make. It began in 1911 and the first graduating group had only four students. James John High School finished in 1921, and its substitute, Roosevelt High School, started the subsequent year.
