Polk Elementary School
Polk Elementary School is an exceptional elementary school with a long history of excellence. Situated in West El Paso on the corner of Westwind and Belvidere, it opened its doors in 1981 and today serves 600 students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Their staff of 60 contains a faculty of 30 highly qualified homeroom teachers, one instructional coach, one counselor, and two administrators.
They provide a traditional elementary program, a dual-language program, and gifted and talented services in all grades. Their school is named after Hibbard Glenn Polk, one of El Paso’s most adored and respected educators. He was a teacher, counselor, principal, and school administrator.

North Star Elementary School
North Star Elementary School is situated in northeast El Paso, first started in January 2003. Since its beginning, it has been titled a Texas Education Agency Exemplary or Recognized School. Its most recent recognition is achieving six out of six distinction designations by the Texas Education Agency and is called an “A” campus. It was also later acknowledged as a Texas Honor Roll School by Educational Results Partnership.
Its school was one of seventeen YISD schools known for demonstrating high academic achievement in addition to reducing the achievement gaps across various student populations.
