Sláinte Irish Pub Oakland
Sláinte Irish Pub Oakland exists to introduce Oakland, California, to Irish hospitality, culture, and cuisine. Irish County Donegal, where Jackie Gallanagh was born and nurtured, is Buncrana. Her family recipes were used to establish the menu for the pub, which she then expanded with more delicious meals made with both imported and locally found ingredients. They serve wonderful, authentic Irish food, have a wide selection of Irish whiskey, and consistently pour perfect pints.

“It was crazy good here! Went here to do something different. What a great surprise! Shepherd’s pie, rolled sausage and chips was to die for. And, let’s not forget the ginger cake with whiskey whipped cream! Amazing! Gotta go to Oakland to get it though!!” – Debbie Paine
McNally’s Irish Pub
McNally’s Irish Pub was established on the final day of Prohibition by Bill McNally. According to lore, if Bill liked you, you would receive the best service in town; yet, if he didn’t, you would pass out from dehydration before he arrived. Fortunately for Oakland and his company, Bill got along well with most people. They restored McNally’s to its former glory as a fantastic neighborhood pub while preserving the welcoming atmosphere for which it had grown famous over the years. The interior design and amenities have mostly not changed: there is no food, there are just a few small bathrooms, and the walls are covered with historical artifacts and photographs of Jack Nicholas, Ireland, and JFK, who sneaked in for a drink during his presidential campaign.

“This place has ideal bar vibe, and the food is good as well. I came here with a few friends and we had an amazing time. Everybody loved the food specially the nachos with carnitas, and the hood house drinks. My personal favorite was the Korean fried chicken sandwich. Also this places pricing is pretty good compared to other restaurants in the area. Our server April was fantastic as well, she was friendly, informative, and also on time. I’ll be back here.” – Dartise Jones
