REVIEWS:

“This place can be described by 2 words. Breathtakingly gorgeous. The hundreds of roses spread out surrounding a beautiful little fountain in the center. The smell is intoxicating, with each rose smelling slightly different than all the others. There are a ton of bumblebees minding their own business, but it is just amazing to walk around and relax. A great place to stop and smell the roses.” – Kyle S.

Alum Rock ParkAlum Rock Park

Alum Rock Park was established in 1872 and is one of California’s ancient municipal parks. Cuddled within the Alum Rock Canyon in the foothills of the Diablo Range, the Park’s 720 acres of natural, rugged beauty, offer visitors many recreational outdoor activities including hiking, bicycling, family, horseback riding, and group picnicking, and of course, just relaxing.

Water, barbecue pits, picnic tables, and restrooms are accessible in most picnic fields, with meadows and a children’s playground in the mid-canyon field. From 1890 to 1932 the park was a nationally familiar health spa with 27 mineral springs, a tea garden, a restaurant, an indoor swimming pool, and a dance pavilion.

At the moment you could drive from city center San Jose to the park on the Alum Rock Steam Railroad, a trip that expense a quarter. Nowadays, leftovers of the railroad bridges can be seen, some of the stone grottos that contain mineral springs are still accessible, but now the charms of the park focus on nature, wildlife, and hiking.

“This is a treasure of San Jose. Maybe the best of all in the Bay Area. It has so many old beautiful bridges and walking along the creek is feeling like being in a fairy tale. From the gate I walked all the way to the Mineral spring and back is about six miles. I made many stops along the way just to check out the birds and posing for photos at my favorite spots.” – H.
