Historic Fourth Ward Park

Historic Fourth Ward ParkHistoric Fourth Ward Park was established by a new City charter extending to the northeastern city limits, bounded by West Peachtree to the west and the Georgia Railroad tracks to the south. The phrase “Old Fourth Ward” first appeared in 1937, when the state legislature decreased the number of city wards from 13 to 6, merging old wards into new ones. The Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. is formed in 2006 by the city to construct a 22-mile transportation/recreation corridor that will encircle Atlanta’s downtown. As part of the project, ABI develops plans for a variety of parks, including the 17.5-acre Historic Fourth Ward Park.

“I’ve been here many times. It’s a lovely park right across from the Ponce City Market. Great place for exercise and dog walking. Up the stairs there is a playground and splash pad for the kiddos. I’ve also done a photoshoot here. There’s also a bathroom next to the playground.” – Thai Kajangu

“This Park is very peaceful and quiet. We had a great time there and meet so many fur friends along the way to the playground. It’s definitely a good place to bring your children to play. The atmosphere was good. Nice place to exercise 😜 too. Especially because it’s most definitely a hike back and forth from the playground to the parking lot.” – Eva Vulne

Atlanta Memorial Park

Atlanta Memorial ParkAtlanta Memorial Park was born out of the need to restore Atlanta Memorial Park after the historic flood of 2009. AMPC’s objective is to repair, enhance, and protect Atlanta Memorial Park, making it a beautiful, connected, and sustainable urban greenspace for the benefit of all. It was founded as a private/public collaboration with the City of Atlanta and received its 501(c)(3) status in May of 2011. The park had been neglected and deteriorating for decades before AMPC was established: trees were dying, invasive plants were spreading, and walking pathways surrounding the park were either eroded or non-existent, forcing pedestrians to run and stroll on the street with motor traffic.

“Gorgeous park to hang out with friends and family! This is a wonderful place that you can relax yourself when you now work! And there is a long side walk place for people to walk and run. People can breathe the fresh air when they are doing exercise here. And this park nears Atlanta Botanical Park. They are close to each other. You can just go to both places at one time, which is great.” – Aaron W
