Christy’s Grill, which became the Continental Club in 1945, was founded by Ross “Chris” Christy. With the venue known as Rumboogie, they began staying open late. It was used as a rental facility for several years. Curtis Christy operated the club for Pharaoh, a comedian, from 2010 until 2014 in an attempt to reopen it as a comedy club and music venue. It had a brief run as a venue for death metal band events in 2013.
“Love this space. This truly historic spot has had a flawless renovation and has been brought back to lift. Besides the gorgeous space, the drinks were delicious, the food was fantastic, and loved the Wednesday night jazz. So stoked to finally have amazing food and live music in West Oakland. Will be there all the time.” – Anne M.

“Amazing. Great time. Cool bartenders. Great crowd and atmosphere. Dance all night if you like. Never been to a place that played Nigerian or African style music. It was crazy. Would definitely recommend going there if you are ever in Oakland with a need to party.” – Shaun F.

Through its architecture, the Port Bar brings Oakland’s past back to life for the sake of the city’s future vibrancy.
All key design features are reused from various areas of Oakland’s past that are all undergoing transformation for Oakland’s future, beginning with Sean Sullivan’s Mondrian-inspired shipping container wall. Similarly, The Port Bar sees itself as a hub connecting Oakland’s past, present, and bright future.
“Stopped by The Port Bar for a pre-dinner cocktail. Traffic was not nearly as bad as I was expecting so I arrived in Oakland a bit earlier than my dinner with friends so I decided to get a cocktail. The bartender Nestor greeted and welcomed me to the bar. He makes a really good cocktail and it was priced as expected. I will visit The Port Bar again when in Oakland. I do love a good drag brunch so I will be looking into adding this to a Sunday Funday.” – Nathan W.
