Alejandro’s Mexican Food

The founder, Alejandro Alvarado, was born in Inglewood, California, to a Mexican father and a Salvadorian mother. When he was younger, he loved the food that his parents and grandparents made. His father’s grandmother cooked Mexican food, and his maternal grandmother cooked Salvadorian food.

Jose’s Mexican Cafe & Cantina
Jose’s Mexican Cafe & Cantina serves delicious Mexican cuisine and refreshing margaritas. The Martinez Family established Jose’s Mexican Café and Cantina in November 1973. The older brother Joe opened the La Paloma Mexican Restaurant on Kapiolani in 1966. When Joe relocated to Hawaii, the younger siblings followed one by one and helped out at La Paloma. After several years of employment, the younger siblings and sisters made the decision to launch Jose’s in 1973.
Jose’s mother, Ina, taught him to cook using the enchilada, salsa, Spanish rice, and bean dishes from her own family. Jose’s is still operating today at 1134 Kokohead Avenue in Kaimuki, Hawaii, serving you scrumptious Mexican food and frosty margaritas.
