Emporium Western Store is a common nearby landmark at 1031 19th St. in Bakersfield, California, began more than 110 years ago and has been serving precious clients ever since. The store was established in 1909 as a genuine emporium or universal store in the center of downtown Bakersfield. In 1928, it was bought by Isaac Rubin, grandfather of the present proprietor, and has stayed in the family for over three generations.
In 1946, the store’s running transferred to Rubin’s daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Al Goldwater. In 1948, Al Goldwater started to change the store into a forte Western clothing store, among the first in California and modified the name from The Emporium to Emporium Western Store.
