SOBU is a husband and wife design team that previously dreamed of having its own shop. They’d make wonderful things, meet a lot of interesting people in the neighborhood, exhibit local artists’ work, and throw parties in the store. They wanted to create modern, well-crafted pieces that would last a lifetime out of all-natural materials. They regarded SOBU as a viable alternative to the mass-produced, hurriedly constructed, and somewhat lifeless furniture sold in every mall across the country by the corporate behemoths we all know and love. It’s possible that the products were created with the intention of not lasting.
The goal was to create with pride and love, as well as connect with the consumers for a far more personal and meaningful experience when buying products for their homes. They wanted to show the customers how much they care about them, how much they appreciate them, and how grateful they are that they have chosen their designs to decorate their homes.
