Urban Chestnut Midtown Brewery and BiergartenCraft Breweries in St. Louis

Urban Chestnut Midtown Brewery and Biergarten is a craft beer brewer with authentic heritage and established quality that is both unique and tradition-oriented. UCBC’s unique brewing philosophy is known as Beer Divergency—a ‘new world meets old world’ brewing approach in which the beer drinker is taken on a divergent path of exploration through the worlds of modern, American craft beers, classic European brewing traditions, and small batches of Bavarian brewed/imported beers.

They want to be appreciated for their acts as a corporate part of the St. Louis community as they work to develop their high-quality lagers and ales. They name these efforts “Urban Efforts” because they are deliberate actions made by Urban Chestnut to assist them in being better global and local citizens. These activities range from the environmental practices they utilize during the brewing process to a concerted effort to assist local not-for-profit groups in achieving their fundraising goals.

REVIEWS:

“The Urban Chestnut is a great addition to the booming craft brew scene in St. Louis. The place is cozy, the employees seem enthusiastic, and the beer garden looks exactly like the gardens I see in Germany. All the beers have a crisp but smooth taste, especially the German beers. Since the brewer is classically trained in German beers, brews like the IPA have a sort of German twist on them. This is not a bad thing. All of their drinks are unique, especially the Winged Nut which is brewed with Chestnuts. That’s not a brew you’re going to see anywhere else.” – Dan S.

“St. Louis has an abundance of great microbreweries but 4 Hands stands out. Their tasting room is a little off the beaten path south of downtown. Fourteen beers on tap including 6 year-round favorites. Also gin and tonic on tap made with their own gin. A small food menu from Peacemaker and Sidney Treet is available from a side window inside. Friendly service.” – Keith W.

“Was pleasantly surprised about this place. The food was really good and different from the traditional St Louis bar menu so don’t expect wings and toasted ravioli in this place. But what you get are great salads, nachos, and the very tasty and surprised hit the spent grain beer bread. The service was quick and the beers were good. Worth the visit.” – Bob E.

Bluewood BrewingGood Craft Breweries in St. Louis

Bluewood Brewing is known for its one-of-a-kind artisan ales, including barrel-aged and wild fermentation ales. The name Bluewood Brewing comes from the brewers’ nicknames for their undergraduate houses, one dubbed “Ol’ Blue” and the other “Plywood,” where they made many memories and discovered their passion for craft beer. Their one-of-a-kind offers and approach to the craft of brewing helped them build their brand and goods in the local brewing community.

The group is now aiming for a physical location where they can experiment with new techniques and showcase their trade all year. As Bluewood expands, they’ll continue to push the boundaries of their beers’ creativity and science.

“I’ve visited a decent number of breweries and I must say this one provided the best beer I have had to date. I ordered a flight with one of each of the following: Hefeweizen, Mead, Kolsh, and an IPA. All of them were the best versions of those styles of beer that I’ve had in the past. Their raspberry hop tart was possibly the best sour I’ve had as well. So smooth and tasty. Sweet but still with a sour tang. This place is awesome. Be sure to order a flight and try for yourself.” – Chase S.

Schlafly BottleworksOne of the best Craft Breweries in St. Louis

Schlafly Bottleworks, the original locally-owned independent craft brewery in Missouri, began hand-brewing authentic beers in 1991 in the backyard of the world’s largest brewer and continues to do so today as the world’s largest brewer’s backyard. The Tap Room brewpub and restaurant first opened its doors in 1991. The flagship Schlafly experience is still the original flag that was planted. They remained committed to producing high-quality craft beer in order to meet rising demand.

Schlafly Bottleworks has more than met that criteria since 2003. As they looked to expand the community-focused brewpub philosophy, they opened the historic Schlafly Bankside in 2020.

“We went to Schlafly to celebrate my brother’s 30th birthday and had a great time. Tyson was a great waiter. We had beer bread and spinach artichoke dip as appetizers and both were delicious. We had a party of six adults and one child and couldn’t decide on a pizza to share so we got four pizzas. All but the four cheese. All were delicious. We always had full drinks and our food came out quickly. It was a very pleasant evening and I would recommend to anyone to go for an evening of good beer, good food, and a great time.” – Andy L.
