Maria’s CafeCafe in Minneapolis

Maria’s Cafe, María Hoyos, owner, and manager of Maria’s Cafe, came to Minneapolis in 1980 from Medellin, Colombia. In the “City of Flowers,” she owned a florist shop and the kitchen was merely a hobby. Her hobby developed into a calling. After 14 years with a famous restaurant in South Minneapolis, Maria started Maria’s Breakfast Club on her own in 1993. Business boomed. At the end of her renting, Maria chose to move her restaurant with no success.

For the past few years, Maria has carried out private catering and worked at two country clubs. The probability to open a new restaurant in Minneapolis resulted from a tip from a former Breakfast Club customer and friend, and an invitation from the American Indian Business Development Corporation to take dwelling in the Ancient Traders Market.
