“In a very nice area, nice, clean and fun place to just hang out and look at books. Came here with my wife. She got a book and sat by the window to read. Was an overcast day so it was quite a nice vibe to just read and chill while watching the Bradley fair district. They have a Starbucks area with some unique pastries that I’ve never seen at other chains! The staff is kind and friendly. They were quick to help when I asked a question.” – Mike M

“This bookshop has a wide variety of new and used books at really fair prices. The selection was very impressive. We were excited to find an out-of-print series in like new condition. I will definitely be back!” – Joseph Rumpsa

Al’s Old and New Book Store

Al’s Old and New Book StoreAl’s Old and New Book Store is dedicated to assisting you in locating excellent books at reasonable costs. Helen Woodward purchased Drawver’s Old Books, a Wichita bookstore that had been open since at least 1943, in 1957. That had to be modified because it was a family name. She wanted a new name and didn’t want to use Woodward’s because it put her at the bottom of the phone book and was too long. Al’s Old Books put her store at the top of the phone book listings, allowing people to think of it as a general bookstore with history, fiction, religion, classics, cookery, comic books, and just about anything.

“Great selection very kind. While I was in there a man with sever learning disabilities was asking for help. The gentleman was so kind and patient to the man even though it was clear he wasn’t buying anything. Need more of this in Wichita! The place has won my heart. Oh and I have five more books that are amazing which helps!” – Ben Swartz

Eighth Day Books

Eighth Day BooksEighth Day Books first opened the store in Wichita, Kansas in 1988 and they’ve focused on classic books throughout the disciplines of art, science, and the humanities. They’ve never been your average independent bookstore; they avoid the trendy and don’t stock books primarily for their commercial value. Instead, they’re picky, giving an oddball collection of books based on the following organizing principle: if a book, whether literary, scientific, historical, or religious, brilliantly illuminates ultimate questions, it’s a suitable contender for inclusion in our catalog.

“One of the coolest places to visit. Has a huge selection of books. Well organized, with different stock every time we have visited. A favorite feature is the “hobbit hole” basement children’s book section. Great books, great feel, friendly staff. 10/10 recommend. As a parent of littles with not much time for reading, this place always re-sparks my love for reading.” – Kay Lee Hughes
