REVIEWS:

“Ask someone to draw an eye and, most likely, they will do just that – a circle to represent the eyeball, another circle to represent the band of color, pupil, and so on. The result being a pictogram of sorts…internationally recognized and labeled as an eye. Phil allows students to bypass this response by observing the subject, in this case, the eye, in a way that is not devoid of the drawers current emotional state or intent. The result will be an eye as seen by the drawer, not an eye as represented by the collective whole of every human on the planet. And that is what makes these classes, in my opinion, beautiful and therapeutic.” – Simeon R.

Portland Child Art StudioOne of the best Art Class in Portland

Portland Child Art Studio is motivated by the Berkeley Child Art Studio, which was governed by Miriam de Uriarte in Berkeley, CA throughout the 1970s through the 1990s. The task of PCAS is to help the perceptual growth of children using artistic learning. Their knowledge of child perceptual growth and the teaching exercises that they establish around these concepts was provided to us by Rhoda Kellogg.

Rhoda was a “psychologist, child-teacher, and scholar who gathered and studied children’s art during a period of her lifetime. From 1948 to 1981, Kellogg gathered various million drawings created by children, ages 2 through 6, as they scrawled to teach themselves to draw.

“This place is amazing! Took my son here during open studio time. The place was tucked away inside the Northwest Neighborhood Culture Center building. The kids have free range to be messy & creative with paint, pens, glue, and clay. It was so fun to see my boy explore and play. He could have stayed there all day and was so excited to take his paintings home to hang in his room. I’ll definitely be taking him back.” – Michelle T.
