“My wife and I took the blacksmithing sample class. It was a ton of fun! The teachers were patient and knowledgeable, and you could tell they really enjoyed what they were teaching. It’s hot and a bit of work but in a good way. You’ll leave with some new skills, an idea of whether blacksmithing is something you want to peruse further, and a neat souvenir to boot!” – Christopher K.

“Actually, I’m a homeless man 45 years of age. Originally from St. Louis, Mo. What I appreciate about Laney College is not only are offering educational opportunities for the citizens of Oakland and surrounding cities, but they have graced the homeless community with the privilege of their restrooms and electrical outlets that are situated in various places on the campus’s grounds. Of which the Arts and Crafts section is where I personally spend my time. Thanks, Laney College.” – Orlando W.

“I love this place! I took the fundamentals of drawing workshop with Tess/Andy. Drawing has always been fun but I felt stuck on articulating what I saw in my head or with my eyes. The workshop gave me the tools I needed to take my skills to the next level. If you’re wondering where to go, check out Andy’s work on the website, it’s the best I’ve seen in the area and they train students with a solid methodology to approach drawing in simultaneously a fun and organized way. Students in other programs seemed very happy to be there as well – the people I met were always lovely. Totally recommend the golden gate atelier.” – Poonam M.
