“Addie is a wonderful artist, she helps you explore your inner artist with her relaxing yet creative classes. ArtMixArtMix

ArtMix is an Indianapolis-based noncommercial, changes the lives of people with disabilities through the creation of art. With five great programs and additional special projects, ArtMix serves more than 6,000 people yearly. When ArtMix was established, students with disabilities were repeatedly contained in one classroom and did not receive art, music, or PE instruction. Teachers requested their services to bridge the gap in students’ education.

They responded by sending teaching artists into the classrooms to facilitate arts activities to support student learning outcomes. At the same time, the arts were progressively accepted as an ideal instructional tool, being naturally inclusive of varying abilities. The arts also offer numerous means of engaging learner interest, conveying information, and expressing understanding. This is significant for students with disabilities who often learn and communicate in a diversity of ways.
